Getting Around AVALON Golf Carts
Golf Carts are available for rent by the hour. A fun way to see all the amazing sights of Avalon and its surrounding hills.
Taxicabs
Taxicabs meet boat arrivals and are convenient and easy to secure both at the dock or in town. A taxi stand is centrally located in town. Private charters and specialty vehicles are available.
TramTram service aboard open-air vehicles offer continuous loop service throughout Avalon and are ideal for transporting guests, clients or employees. Hours may vary. ShoreboatShoreboat service is a year-round water-taxi service providing transportation between vessels and the pier and other points outside Avalon Harbor such as Descanso Beach, or Hamilton Cove. Regular service to and from White’s Landing is provided only during the summer season. Special charter rates are available and can be arranged in advance.
Getting Around TWO HARBORSEverything in Two Harbors is accessible by foot. A walk from one side of the isthmus to the other takes about 15 minutes. The wide-open space of the island conservancy begins only about one hundred yards from the boat dock. Local residents walk or ride bicycles throughout the community and have cars for travel to Avalon, to the interior of the island, or to other coves. The following services are provided by:
Campground Gear Service:Free gear haul is provided between the Two Harbors Pier and the Campground. Gear trucks meet scheduled passenger vessels. Unscheduled gear hauls are subject to charge. Banning House Lodge Shuttle:Free passenger van service picks up arriving guests aboard scheduled passenger boats for transport to the Lodge and is on-call for guest transport within the community. Shoreboat Service:
Water taxis shuttle riders to private yachts and coves outside the isthmus from the pier. Cat Harbor Tram:During the summer season, on weekends, this bus service takes passengers across the isthmus between Cat Harbor and Isthmus Cove. The tram does not operate in the winter. Getting Into the INTERIOR OF CATALINA ISLANDThe most beautiful parts of the island can be explored by way of guided tours into the interior. The interior is covered with broad valleys, isolated coves, and is home to the Catalina Island Fox, the Beechey Ground Squirrel, North American Bison, Catalina Island Quail and the Bald Eagle. There are also many endemic plants and flowers found on Catalina Island. Catalina Safari Bus:
Links the City of Avalon with Two Harbors village, including stops at the trailhead for Black Jack Campground, the Airport-in-the-Sky and Little Harbor Campground.
Discovery Tours:
From Avalon a visitor can take the Inland Motor Tour, the Skyline Drive Tour or the Cape Canyon Tour to see unspoiled wilderness. From Two Harbors see the interior from the seat of a Hummer.
Hiking and Biking:
Permits are required for extended treks and can be obtained from the Catalina Island Conservancy
